17 April 2020 — Are security token offerings finally taking off in 2020? Well seems like it, according to the number of upcoming STOs to date from Coinspeaker‘s STOs calendar 2020!

But, it was not such a rosy picture when we look back at data on STO fundraising from 2017 to 2019, from the Global STO Study 2019 of BlockState.

With all the advantageous of STO, the numbers remained quite small from 5 STOs in 2017, 35 in 2018 to 55 in 2019. While some may viewed this as quite an improvement, the growth for the past two years doesn’t seem to match up to the hype around STOs.

We did some digging around and were pleasantly surprised to find out that there will be a total of 32 upcoming STOs listed to date, in the first quarter of 2020. Through a linear extrapolation, we may be able to see an STO growth of more than 130% by end of 2020, with a projected estimation of 128 STOs. What’s more, if we performed an exponential extrapolation, we could possibly see a hike of STO numbers to almost 300 in 2021!

Of course that is just my optimistic opinion, amidst the COVID 19 pandemic. But some of my industry peers, Jeff Dorman, CFA and Victor Zhang may just agree with me, right?
