The Video Game Industry Has Recently Been Infected With The Blockchain Bug!

7 Aug 2020 — For those who grew up playing #Atari, you will be familiar with its famous and popular Atari 2600 consoles and games like Pong, Pac-Man, space invaders in the 1970s. Since then, the video game industry has exploded, with the market expected to be worth over $90 billion by the end of 2020. (S: We PC).

While #blockchain for games hasn’t been widely implemented, this week, Animoca Brands has expanded its right to develop and publish blockchain versions of more Atari game titles.

“Our ambition for the Atari VCS is to develop an ecosystem that gives users access to the largest number of tools for creation and entertainment. Blockchain games inside a virtual world are a perfect example for the types of entertainment that we want to propose to the Atari VCS userbase.” – Frederic Chesnais, CEO of Atari

“We are very excited at the opportunity to catapult these nostalgic, history-making games into the future.” – Yat Siu, co-founder and chairman of Animoca Brands

Beside its application for payment mechanism for game purchases, blockchain can support trading and use of in-game resources, characters, weapons and other augmentations in multiplayer and RPGs. Through blockchain technology, this will enhance transparency and security while preventing cheating among players.
